What is the difference between gold-plate, gold-fill & solid gold?
Gold-plate components are made of nickel or another base metal with a few, thin layers of gold on the surface.
Gold-fill components are similar to those of gold-plate, as they are made of a base metal, usually brass, but they are much higher in price & quality as they have several more layers of gold on the surface. Gold-fill is also very resistant to tarnishing, unlike gold-plate.
Next on the ladder is Vermeil. Vermeil components consists of a base of silver, bronze, or copper that has been coated with many layers of gold. Very durable.
Solid gold comes in different colors, such as rose, yellow, white, etc. It also comes in different levels of thickness - 14 KT, 18, & 24 KT.
